Volunteer FireFighter Duties

POSITION: Volunteer Firefighter/EMT

REPORTS TO: Lieutenant

Qualifications:        

  1. Be 18 years of age.
  2. Possess a high school diploma or a certificate of educational competence.
  3. Possess a valid drivers license.
  4. Have a clear driving record for a minimum of 3 years with no citations or convictions for traffic violations other than exceeding the posted speed limit.
  5. Able to pass a physical examination, drug screening and respiratory examination.
  6. Shall not have been convicted of a felony crime.
  7. Pass a criminal background investigation.
  8. Have, and maintain, a current Washington State Emergency Medical Technician Certificate within two years of membership in the District.
  9. Successfully complete the Clallam County Firefighter Recruit Fire Academy within two years of membership in the District.
  10. Have knowledge of the use, operation, and maintenance of modern firefighting equipment and methods.
  11. Reside in Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue. The Chief may waive this requirement if it can be shown that response time to alarms is within reason.
  12. Have reasonable writing skills to complete forms, letters, and reports.
  13. Be able to read and write English, and to read and understand policies, rules, instructions, and written materials of the District.
  14. Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  15. Be able to think clearly and act quickly, calmly, and efficiently in emergency situations.
  16. Be able to perform demanding physical activities.
  17. Exhibit health and physical fitness including freedom from addiction to alcohol and/or illegal chemical substances or opiates. 

Typical Duties:

May contain: helmet, person, fireman, fire hydrant, and hydrant
  1. Responds to fire and emergency medical alarms in accordance with District 2 policie and procedures.
  2. Assumes command of emergency scenes within District 2 in the absence of a command officer or senior firefighter.
  3. Performs assigned duties in maintaining District fire and EMS apparatus, equipment, facilities, and grounds in a state of readiness and cleanliness.
  4. In the absence of a command officer or senior firefighter, assumes responsibility of incident.
  5. Completes incident reports and assists maintaining operational records.
  6. Participates in District 2 community service and public relations activities.
  7. Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks assigned.
  8. Attends routine and special fire drills and training sessions to enhance the skills required for the position and to keep up-to-date on current district, state, and nationally recognized methods and techniques.
  9. Maintains a current Washington State EMT-B certification.
  10. Maintains the physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  11. Projects an image of professionalism through appearance, cooperation, compatibility, punctuality, and enthusiasm.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by a chief officer.
